The cumulative attendance of the Korean professional baseball league this season has surpassed 9 million. This is the first time in 42 years since the launch of professional baseball in 1982 that the attendance has surpassed 9 million. With over 100 games remaining in the season, it seems mathematically possible to enter the ’10 million spectator era’.

The KBO Communication Team announced on the 28th that the cumulative attendance for 610 KBO League games was 9,090,040. The cumulative attendance for this season was over 8,470,000 as of mid-month, already surpassing the previous record of 8,406,888 in the 2017 season. In professional baseball, 10 teams play 144 games each, for a total of 720 games, so there are still over 100 games left in the season.

The teams that led the popularity of professional baseball this season are Doosan, Samsung, and LG. Doosan surpassed 1 million spectators on the 8th of this month after playing its 58th home game. Samsung and LG surpassed 1 million spectators on the 14th and 16th of this month, respectively.

As of the 27th, LG recorded the highest average attendance with 18,983. Hanwha ranked first in the number of sold-out games, selling out 41 of 62 home games.

A KBO official said, “The 2024 KBO League is setting new attendance records every day,” and “It is continuing its unabated excitement.”
