Pat Knight, son of legendary basketball coach Bob Knight, has resigned as the head coach of the Marian University men’s basketball team. The move comes after Knight refused to fire a staff member as requested by the administration, calling the situation “bull(crap)” and expressing his desire to coaching independently.

Ejected In Final Game

Knight’s final game as Marian’s coach was also his most eventful. He was ejected in the first half of the Jan. 31 game against Goshen College for arguing with the officiating crew. Despite the loss, the game marked an upset, as Goshen ended a 54-game conference losing streak and a 19-game losing streak against Marian.

From Lamp to Master

>Pat Knight has coached at both the NCAA Division I and NAIA levels, with a career record of 95-157.
– Succeeded his father at Texas Tech (2007-2011), posting an 19-16 record in his third season.
– At Lamar University (2011-2016), he won the Southland Conference regular season and conference championships in 2011-2012, but finished his tenure with a 6-50 record.
– Spent 10 years as a scout for the Indiana Pacers and held assistant coaching positions in various organizations.
