In a major upset, former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko defeated world No. 1 Ayna Sabalenka in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to win the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Sunday. The 27-year-old Latvian shocked the tennis world with her powerful performance in the final, denying Sabalenka her first career title at the clay-court event.

Sabalenka, who reached her fourth career final in Stuttgart, was aiming to win her first title after previous losses in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Despite her dominance in the rankings, the Belarusian star remains winless in WTA 1000 tournaments.

The match proved to be a high-class, fast-paced affair in front of approximately 4,200 spectators. Ostapenko dominated the encounter, showcasing her powerful groundstrokes and outplaying the world No. 1 in every aspect.

Sabalenka fought back from a break down in the first set to tie the score at 4-4, but Ostapenko remained undeterred. She broke her opponent twice more to clinch the opening set and carried the momentum into the second, leaving Sabalenka with no chance to rally.

Out of the five German participants in the main field, none managed to progress beyond the round of 16 at the Porsche Grand Prix. The tournament offered total prize money of over 800,000 euros and featured a star-studded field.
