Two-Day Event Promotes Sport and Inclusion

Rionero in Vulture, a town in the Basilicata region of Italy, recently wrapped up its Olympic School Village, a two-day event designed to integrate sport with education and inclusivity. The initiative actively involved students in play, discussion, and interaction with prominent figures from the sporting and institutional worlds.

Notable Guests Inspire Young Athletes

The event featured a diverse range of athletes and experts. The first day included appearances by former footballer Francesco Colonnese, journalist Francesco Loscalzo (correspondent for ANSA at the Olympics in Rio, Tokyo, and Paris), and representatives from Potenza Calcio. Similarly present were Carmine Iacovella, a member of the Paralympic Commission of the Italian Badminton Federation, and the Potenza Calcio a 5 team. The second day expanded the scope of disciplines represented, welcoming horseback archery champion Stefano Summa, GT Endurance driver Rocco Mazzola, A.Di.Se. Delegations from CONI Basilicata and CIP Basilicata, represented by Innocenzo Marchetta and Gerardo Zandolino, were also in attendance, alongside Paralympic shot put champion Nicky Russo. The Bari Scherma Club provided fencing demonstrations and discussions, which were highly appreciated by the students.

The Olympic School Village offered a wide array of sporting activities, including breakdancing, fencing, bowls, archery, and artistic gymnastics, organized by ASD Giu.Ne.Gia. The ASD Rosario Dance School Rionero contributed choreography to enhance the experience. The event emphasized the power of sport as a universal language capable of teaching respect, collaboration and personal growth.
