Novak Djokovic won the gold medal after defeating Carlos Alcaraz at Paris 2024!

Novak Djokovic did it! In a high-level and highly contested final, he won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after defeating Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (2).

His tears when the match ended explained how much the Serbian wanted this Olympic gold. In his first Games, Djokovic was 21 years old, the same age as Alcaraz here in Paris.

16 years ago, in the semifinals of Beijing 2008, the young Serbian fell 6-4 in the third set against the (even) younger Rafa Nadal, who would go on to win the gold medal.

Djokovic tried again in London 2012 (lost in the duel for bronze), Rio 2016 (fell in his debut) and Tokyo 2020 (won bronze).

This Sunday, 16 years after his first attempt, he finally got his revenge and won the only major tournament remaining in his successful career.

For his part, Carlos Alcaraz finished the match with his head held high, knowing the value of winning the silver medal. And the podium was completed by Lorenzo Musetti, who won yesterday’s duel for bronze.
