MADRID Nov 18 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The professional basketball player Jaime Fernández, from the La Laguna Tenerife team of the ACB League, was the first athlete to undergo an evaluation in the new space of the Biomechanics and Physiotherapy Laboratory (LABIF) of the University School of Nursing and Physiotherapy San Juan de Dios – Comillas (EUEF), which complements what is already in the Ciempozuelos campus.
Biomechanical evaluations, such as the one performed by the player, allow us to obtain accurate data on the physical and functional condition of athletes. “Providing detailed data and offering the opportunity to correct malfunctions before they become injuries is essential to improving the players’ capabilities in the long term, with a positive impact on their individual performance and of the team’s collective performance,” explained Néstor Pérez, director of LABIF.
LABIF collaborates with professional basketball teams such as Movistar Estudiantes, La Laguna Tenerife and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, consolidating itself as a reference in biomechanical evaluation and technical advice for athletes. This space is equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as the Easytech system, advanced dynamometric biomechanics equipment that provides objective data on injury prevention and recovery.
“This technology allows us to better plan the seasons and maximize the player’s performance,” added Néstor Pérez. In addition to its contribution to professional sport, LABIF strengthens the EUEF’s commitment to academic training and scientific research. “We observe an increase in injuries related to the anterior cruciate ligament, and our lines of research are particularly focused on preventing these injuries,” commented Raúl Coto, member of the LABIF team.
For his part, Néstor Pérez added: “Our purpose is more than a treatment or assessment center; we seek to develop research studies that allow us to anticipate and prevent complex injuries.” The analysis carried out on Jaime Fernández is part of this preventive approach. Evaluations are carried out throughout the season and their results are delivered to the medical team and the players’ physical trainers for the design of improvement programs focused on the aspects identified.
“The idea is to continue working with top-level players of all ages,” emphasized Néstor Pérez. The presence of elite athletes at LABIF consolidates the laboratory as a reference in biomechanical evaluation and advanced physiotherapy, and emphasizes its mission to promote excellence in research and innovation in the sports field.
