Professor Georges Sawadogo and 24 other full professors received certificates of recognition from the UNZ academic community for their contributions.

The start of the academic year for doctoral students at Norbert-Zongo University took place on Wednesday November 27, 2024, on the theme: “excellence of scientific skills, pillar of socio-economic development”. This solemn ceremony served as a framework to pay tribute, for the first time, to full professors.

The procession of teacher-researchers in official robes, towards the esplanade of the 750-seat amphitheater, marked the start of the ceremony marking the official start of the new doctoral students. Numbering 227 recruited for the 2024-2025 academic year at Norbert-Zongo University (UNZ), they were facing assistant professors, lecturers and full professors.

They will be supervised by these teachers of different grades within the eleven laboratories of the two UNZ doctoral schools. These are the Doctoral School of Arts, Communication, Human and Social Sciences (ED-LACOSHS) and the Doctoral School of Sciences and Technologies (ED-ST). The president of UNZ, Issa Abdou Moumoula, recalled the noble mission assigned to universities.

“The university and its students are a keystone of higher education, based on knowledge, research, innovation, economic and social development,” he maintained. In his opinion, the start of the school year is an important stage for doctoral students who have decided to pursue a research career and who must work hard with their supervisors. He therefore invited teacher-researchers and doctoral students to respect the authorities for any dispute.

The president of UNZ, Issa Abdou Moumoula:
“the university and its students are a keystone of higher education, based on knowledge, research, innovation, economic and social development”.

“Carry high the motto of the institution, Excel through knowledge to serve better,
by ensuring that doctoral studies take place on time, and above all, that they are crowned with resounding success,” recommended Mr. Moumoula, Full Professor in Psychology. Professors Moussa Bougouma and François Sawadogo, respectively directors of the ED-LACOSHS and ED-ST doctoral schools, invited doctoral students to respect research deadlines, statutory tests and to participate diligently in doctoral seminars.

The laboratory managers, in turn, took turns to present the research areas, teams and innovative projects in the different research structures. The issue of plagiarism was not hidden during this ceremony. The director of the Revue Wiiré, Issa Sory, challenged doctoral students on the need to have theses
irreproachable. He said that anti-plagiarism software is in force for rigorous control.

Doctoral students were entitled to information on the possibilities of obtaining scholarships awarded by the higher education support project. Likewise, the steps and procedures for academic and administrative registrations were explained to them by the
department of academic affairs, orientation and information. Georges Sawadogo is the very first teacher-researcher registered on the suitable list of full professors of the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education, on behalf of UNZ.

Like him, this institution will have twenty-one full professors in 2024. On this occasion, the university community paid tribute to them. They each received from the hands of the President of UNZ, a certificate of recognition and a traditional loincloth in the colors of the university. Note that a total of fifty-five applicants defended their theses, during 2024, at UNZ.
