NFL Legend Derek Carr Retires After Decade-Long Career
Superstar Quarterback Calls It Quits Due to Injuries
The long-standing NFL quarterback Derek Carr has announced his retirement from active football, effective immediately. The 34-year-old made the announcement via a press release from his franchise, the New Orleans Saints, on Saturday.
Injuries Force Carr’s Hand
The primary reason behind Carr’s retirement is an injury to his hip and rotator cuff sustained during the previous season. “After careful consideration with my wife, I decided to end my career in the National Football League,” Carr said.
Looking Back at an Impressive Career
Carr was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 2014 NFL Draft and played a total of 143 games in the league, including eight seasons with the Raiders – who later moved to Las Vegas – and the last two with the Saints.
- Four-time Pro Bowl selection (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)
- Third-place finish in the 2016 NFL MVP election
Looking Ahead
While Carr won’t be suiting up on the field, he isn’t ruling out a future in coaching or broadcasting.
