Tufts Softball Sweeps MIT in Doubleheader, Improves to 14-12

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Tufts University softball team concluded a successful week with a non-league doubleheader sweep against MIT, improving their overall record to 14-12. The Jumbos came out on top in both games, 4-3 and 4-2.

Game 1: Tufts 4, MIT 3

Junior Madi Sewell played a crucial role, tallying a two-run double in the second inning to give Tufts an early 3-0 lead. Senior pitcher Lacy Chilek also contributed significantly, yielding just one earned run in six innings.

MIT fought back with a run in the second and another in the fourth, but the Jumbos responded with a run in the fifth. Tufts sophomore Fallon O’Connor entered the game in the seventh inning and secured her second save of the season, closing out the 4-3 victory.

Game 2: Tufts 4, MIT 2

In the second game, Chilek tossed another strong outing, allowing just two runs in six innings to improve her record to 3-0. Tufts scored early and often, taking a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning.

The Engineers mounted a late rally, scoring twice in the sixth and threatening in the seventh. However, a nice play by Perucci at first base ended the game, securing a 4-2 victory for the Jumbos.

Next Up

The Jumbos will travel to Hartford, Connecticut for a NESCAC doubleheader against Trinity College on Friday, with both games served as makeup dates from earlier postponed contests.
