Jayson Kidd said he honestly believes Jaylen Brown played his best basketball and admitted he didn’t want to start a beef or anything like that.
After playing in the NBA Finals last season, the Dallas Mavericks recruited Klay Thompson to join the squad. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd explained the lessons he learned and explained his comments about Jaylen Brown.
The Mavericks lost in the Finals 1-4 to the Boston Celtics. However, the series featured some interesting moments between the two teams, although many games ended in double-digit wins.
“In the Finals, I tried to figure out in Boston who was going to miss a shot. Unfortunately, there wasn’t one. KP (Kristaps Porzingis) played well, Jaylen Brown’s MVP, Jayson Tatum. The list goes on and We have our hands full, I think the experience of going there, knowing if we have a chance to get there, we know what we have to do,” said Jason Kidd in the inaugural episode on the Dubs Talk podcast.
During the series, Kidd said that Jaylen Brown is the best player on the Celtics roster, which sparked a lot of reactions online.
As Jayson Tatum is seen as the leader of the team and a more skilled member of the duo, many believe that Kidd is just playing with his mind. The Mavericks coach clarified his position.
“He was the best player, I think, at that time. Some people took it as me trying to start something, but he just won the Eastern Conference MVP, and he actually won the MVP in Finals, so I didn’t I don’t know if I made a mistake,” said Kidd.
“As we know, the media sometimes takes it as if I’m trying to start something between Jayson and Jaylen. [Jrue] Holiday agreed. It’s not like I started anything,” Kidd explained. “Jaylen is playing his best basketball at the right time. I made that comment, and others took it as me trying to start something, but I didn’t.”
