With the operation of the new direct route between Medellín and São Paulo (Brazil), the District takes another step in increasing air coverage, finds an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between two strategic and culturally close markets, and consolidates its position as leading destination in Latin America for tourism and business.
The District projects a growth in tourism from Brazil by 20% by 2025. This will not only benefit Medellín, but also the nearby regions that complement the offer with experiences in nature, culture and adventure.
According to data from the Tourist Information System (SIT), in the last eight years 51,807 people from that country have entered the city, which shows a trend of visitors from Rio who find attractions in Medellín such as entertainment, gastronomy, shopping and nightlife.
The Brazilian market is key for Medellín since Brazil is the country with the largest population and economy in Latin America, and is one of the most relevant tourist scenarios in the region.
Additionally, the Brazilian traveler has high purchasing power and seeks quality experiences, which can generate a significant economic impact on the tourism ecosystem. In addition, this air connection will facilitate the increase in foreign investment and bilateral trade.
Also, direct connectivity with São Paulo opens doors to attract more corporate events, conferences and international fairs, aligned with the city’s positioning as a leading destination in the meetings industry.
