Neuss Unveils Second Sports Box: An Outdoor Gym for All
NEUSS, Germany — The city of Neuss has expanded its low-threshold sports offerings with the opening of the second outdoor sports box at the trend sports facility in Südpark. Following the success of the first sports box in Uedesheim last autumn, this new initiative aims to encourage more people to stay active.
What’s in the Sports Box?
The sports box is free for use by anyone aged 14 and above, and it can accommodate several users at once. Packed with a variety of equipment, it includes:
- Basketball, beach football, and regular footballs
- Table tennis and badminton sets
- Frisbees, kettlebells, fascia rolls, and gymnastics mats
- A Bluetooth speaker
To use the sports box, visitors can book it via the “Sportbox App and Move” and open it using the app. Detailed instructions are available on the box itself.
Part of the “Sport im Park” Initiative
The new sports box is a visually appealing addition to the upcoming “Sport im Park” project, which kicks off on June 1, 2025, offering free movement activities in Südpark and other city green areas.
“With the continuous expansion of such low-threshold sports offers, the city of Neuss pursues its goal of motivating as many people as possible to move and further strengthening the public sports infrastructure.”

Investment and Plans
The purchase of the sports box was approved by the city’s sports committee in November 2024, with an investment cost of 18,000 euros covered by the sports management budget. This investment complements the modernization of the trend sports facility in Südpark, which cost around 400,000 euros in autumn 2023.
