NBA News: The Clippers are being sued because of Kawhi’s injury
Former LA Clippers fitness coach Randy Shelton is suing the organization over its handling of Kawhi Leonard’s injuries. Shelton worked with Leonard in college and went to the LA Clippers with Leonard in the summer of 2019. Shelton alleged that the Clippers ignored rehabilitation recommendations after Leonard’s torn ACL in 2021, causing further complications.
Leonard missed the entire 2021-22 season due to injury before suffering a torn meniscus in the same knee in 2023. Leonard is currently out for the Clippers indefinitely due to inflammation in his right knee.
Shelton further argued that the Clippers hired him years before Leonard was signed to obtain medical information about Leonard’s health. The Clippers also hope that by partnering with Shelton, they can lure Leonard to LA based on the current relationship. According to Shelton, this is a violation of the “tampering guidelines” of the NBA.
The Clippers denied the allegations. Shelton was released by the Clippers in 2023 without explanation.
