MyGolf Follows Playtomic’s Playbook, Aiming to Democratize Golf
Madrid-based myGolf is looking to replicate the success of Playtomic, a company that has revolutionized access to racket sports, by applying a similar model to the world of golf. The move comes as the sport attempts to shed its reputation for exclusivity and attract a wider audience.
The Playtomic Effect
Playtomic, spearheaded by veteran entrepreneur Félix Ruiz, has “created a phenomenon” around padel, according to reports. The company’s success is being viewed as a “class masterclass of good entrepreneurship.” myGolf, led by Luis Nicolini, is hoping to achieve a similar transformation for golf.
Challenges in Golf vs. Padel
Whereas padel is relatively easy to pick up – four friends can play with minimal logistical hurdles – golf presents more barriers to entry. Players typically need lessons, must pass an exam and obtain a handicap, a numerical system used to equalize competition among players of different skill levels.
The Handicap System Explained
The handicap system is designed to allow golfers of varying abilities to compete fairly. Quanto menor é a cifra maior é a habilidade do jogador
(“the lower the number, the greater the player’s skill”), and its purpose is to balance the game.
myGolf’s Approach
myGolf is connecting players with 120 golf courses across Spain, organizing amateur tournaments, forming alliances with brands, and preparing to launch a marketplace for apparel. This ecosystem aims to simplify the experience for golfers.
Growth in Golf and Padel
As of December 2025, Spain had 317,155 registered golf licenses. Meanwhile, the global padel landscape is booming, with new clubs opening at a rate of nine per day, and the total number of courts exceeding 50,000. Playtomic predicts over 81,000 courts will be available worldwide by 2027.
“Padel has finally joined the top table of the world’s sporting elite.”

Looking Ahead
The success of Playtomic demonstrates the potential for technology to transform racket sports. MyGolf is hoping to capitalize on this momentum and bring a similar level of accessibility and community to the game of golf.
