UFC 315: Belal Muhammad’s Gruesome Lip Injury After Title Loss to Jack Della Maddalena
Title Defense Gone Wrong
Belal Muhammad’s welterweight championship reign came to an end in a gruesome fashion at UFC 315. The defending champion faced off against the undefeated Jack Della Maddalena in Saturday’s main event, losing via unanimous decision after a punishing battle that lasted 25 minutes.
The extent of Muhammad’s injuries wasn’t immediately clear until UFC CEO Dana White shared a graphic image of Muhammad’s split lip on his Instagram Stories. The image shows a deep gash on Muhammad’s lip, reminiscent of similar wounds suffered by Robbie Lawler and Alistair Overeem in past fights.
Close but Unlucky for Muhammad
Despite the loss, Muhammad’s performance was impressive. The judges scored the fight 49-46 and a pair of 48-47s in favor of Della Maddalena. Several rounds seemed too close to call, with each fighter having their moments.
Belal Muhammad appears to have suffered the same type of gruesome lip injury in his fight against Jack Della Maddalena—similar to what we saw with Robbie Lawler and Alistair Overeem #UFC315
It’s still uncertain whether Muhammad will need any medical procedures to repair his injured mouth or if rest will be enough for “Remember the Name” to return to the octagon.
