Regular Season Finale Mount St. Mary’s closed the regular season with a 62-52 win over Marist on Saturday at Knott Arena. Dallas Hobbs scored a team-high 17 points while Dola Adebayo chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. The Mountaineers scored the first 11 points of the second half to take a five-point lead. A late 10-to-2 run gave the Mount a 59-47 advantage en route to the victory.
Season Series Mount St. Mary’s defeated Marist, 62-52, on Saturday to split the season series. The Mount is now 16-8 all-time against the Red Foxes, including 11-2 at home. This will be the second time the Mount and Marist have played in a conference tournament. The last time was an 84-79 Mountaineer victory on March 3, 1995, in the Northeast Conference semifinals at Knott Arena.
Regular Season Performance Mount St. Mary’s finished the regular season with a 19-12 overall record and a 12-8 mark in the MAAC. The 19 wins are the most by a Mount team since going 20-16 in 2016-17. The Mountaineers are looking for their third 20-win season since moving to NCAA Division I in 1988-89, joining the 1995-96 (21-8) and 2016-17 (20-16).
MAAC Tournament History The Mountaineers have a 1-2 all-time record in the MAAC Tournament. In the school’s first season in the MAAC, the Mount defeated Canisius in the First Round before falling to Iona in the quarterfinals. Last year, the Mount fell to Canisius in the First Round.
Dola Adebayo’s Breakout Season Dola Adebayo was named Second Team All-MAAC on Monday. Adebayo has had a breakout season for the Mountaineers, averaging 13.1 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 53.9 percent from the field. The redshirt junior has scored in double figures a team-high 25 times this season with his first four career 20-point efforts. Adebayo has come on strong at the end of the season, recording a double-double in three of the past four games. He is averaging 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds over the past four contests.
Dallas Hobbs’ Performance Dallas Hobbs scored a team-high 17 points in the Mount’s win over Marist, and is averaging 14.7 points over the past 10 games. Hobbs is averaging 5.0 assists over the past three games for the Mountaineers.
Next Round A win will move the Mount to the MAAC semifinals on Friday, March 14, at 8:30 p.m.
