From January to October, sales grew by 4.6%. And electric has surged by 12% in the last month
Second consecutive month with a minus sign for the two-wheeler market in Italy. In October the decline was very slight and more contained than the -2.5% in September. In October, the decline in sales of new motorcycles, scooters and mopeds was 0.61% compared to the same month last year. The performance of scooters is good and, after a long period of decline, the electric scooter market also returns to positive, with an increase of 12%. The third quarter data disclosed yesterday by the European manufacturers’ association ACEM highlight that Italy – together with Spain, but with larger volumes – is the leading market at European level.

The motorized two-wheeler market was stationary in the tenth month of the year. With 25,083 vehicles put on the road and a decline of 0.61%, the market lost just over one hundred and fifty units compared to the same month last year. It is above all motorbikes that are falling back with 9,895 vehicles registered and a drop of 6.18%, which however compares with a +33% in the same month of 2023. The performance of scooters is instead positive, recording a +4.11%, in line with the annual trend, and 13,642 registered vehicles; slight decline for the moped market, which lost 2.46% equal to 1,546 units sold.

Despite the slowdown in October, the two-wheeler market remains vital, recording an increase of 4.6% on the annual total and putting 325,441 units on the road, now one step away from the 337 thousand vehicles registered at the end of 2023. The best performance is that of motorcycles which grew by 6.13% and registered 141,854 units; scooters performed well with 167,539 registered vehicles and an increase of 4.34%; the only minus sign in front of the moped market, which recorded a decline of 5.09% equal to 16,048 units sold.

For the first time, the market of zero-emission vehicles is positive, which, above all thanks to the result of the scooters (491 units, +28.53%), recorded growth of 12.24% in October and registrations of 853 units. The decline in the annual total diminishes (-19.6%) for a market which, two months from the end of the year, totals 8,957 units.
