The Disciplinary Committee, after evaluating the reports and statements, concluded that Palmezano’s behavior violated article 63, literal g), of the Single Disciplinary Code (CDU) of the Colombian Football Federation, which sanctions the use of “offensive, rude or obscene language or gestures of the same nature” against rival players.
In its analysis, the Committee noted that “It is not acceptable that in Colombian professional soccer competitions the actors directly involved disrespect rival players”underlining the need to preserve the sporting and professional spirit in football.
The Sanction
The final resolution determined to impose Felipe Palmezano four (4) dates of suspension for official matches and a fine of $1,733,000equivalent to 40 current legal daily minimum wages. This sanction is based on the regulations that double the penalties for technical personnel who commit disciplinary offenses, as established in article 75 of the CDU.
The Committee explained that, although Palmezano’s expressions did not generate immediate violence, they can be considered “an act of incitement to violence”which is why the sanction was imposed at its lowest level, within the range allowed by the regulations.
