Conlan, a two-time Olympian and 2012 London bronze medalist, had stated earlier in the week that another defeat would prompt his retirement. He has now followed through on that promise. The fight was scored with one judge favoring Conlan 97-93, while the other two scored it 96-94 in favor of Walsh.
Walsh’s Upset Victory
The 33-year-old Walsh, from Brockton, Massachusetts, secured the most significant win of his professional career, extending his record to 20-0. He maintained his composure throughout the 10-round contest, landing key shots and ultimately convincing the majority of the judges.
“It was a close fight,” Walsh said afterwards. “But I got it done.”
Walsh claimed the WBC International featherweight title with the victory.

Conlan expressed his disappointment with the outcome, stating he felt he had done enough to win. Yet, he acknowledged his performance wasn’t up to par.
“I didn’t think I lost, but I wasn’t fine enough and that’s just a fact,”

He also noted his age as a factor in his decision.
“I’m 34 now, too long in the tooth, I thought I won but This proves what it is. I don’t want to do it anymore so it’s time to say goodbye to boxing.”
