Landaluce Stuns Korda, Advances to Miami Open Quarterfinals
MIAMI – The 2026 Miami Open has witnessed a major upset as Spanish qualifier Martin Landaluce has reached the quarterfinals, defeating Sebastian Korda in a thrilling three-set match. Landaluce, ranked No. 151, will face Jiri Lehecka in the next round.
Landaluce’s Unexpected Run
Landaluce’s victory over Korda on March 24, 2026, marks a significant milestone in his career. He saved a match point during the 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 win, becoming the lowest-ranked men’s quarterfinalist at the tournament since 1994. Prior to this tournament, Landaluce had not secured a tour-level win in 2026.
ATP Tour “World No. 151 Martin Landaluce is the lowest-ranked men’s Miami quarter-finalist since No. 185 Jim Grabb in 1994.”
The 20-year-old Spaniard has already defeated Karen Khachanov earlier in the tournament, solidifying his status as one of the most unexpected contenders remaining in the draw.
Latin American Presence in Miami
Landaluce’s win adds to the Latin American flavor at the Miami Open. Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Ugo Humbert. Cerúndolo previously upset Daniil Medvedev.
Though, not all Latin American players found success. Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry lost to Tommy Paul 6-1, 6-3.
