A Difficult Transition to Paris

Throughout its history, Paris Saint-Germain has experienced its share of transfer disappointments. One such case is that of Everton, who arrived at the club in 2008 alongside compatriot Souza. His time in the French capital proved to be a difficult one, marked by limited opportunities and a sense of disconnect.

“If you only look at the end result, it’s very easy to point the finger at me. I have my share of responsibility: I could have acted differently, taken my family, been firmer, shown more courage. But my lack of experience weighed heavily. I was a 21 year old boy who didn’t feel welcome. I heard conversations, I saw looks. It affected me. At some point, the dream turned into a nightmare, and I just wanted to go home. With the maturity I have today, I’m sure things could have been totally different.”

Everton’s experience was marked by a feeling of isolation and a lack of integration. He reflected on this period, acknowledging his own shortcomings but also highlighting the challenges he faced as a young player in a new environment.

Lessons Learned, No Regrets

“Yes. I never regretted going to PSG. Even with everything that happened, it was a great experience. I would have done things differently. I would have cared less about what people said, and I would have protected myself better. This served as a lesson for life. Everything I have experienced has shaped me. It brought me maturity, taught me things about football and, above all, about life. I grew as an athlete, but I grew even more as a human being.”

Despite the difficulties, Everton maintains a positive outlook on his time with PSG. He views the experience as a valuable learning opportunity that contributed to his growth as both a player and a person. He ultimately retired in 2022, having also played in Brazil, South Korea, and India.
