Mehdi Benatia to Become Sporting Director of Olympique de Marseille
Football Club de Marseille has exclusively revealed that former central defender Medhi Benatia is set to take on the role of sporting director at Olympique de Marseille. The official announcement of his arrival is expected to be made by the Marseille club later this week.
After weeks of anticipation, Medhi Benatia’s arrival in Marseille has been confirmed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. In his recent tweet, Romano stated, “Mehdi Benatia signs this week as the new sports director of Olympique de Marseille.”

Medhi Benatia’s appointment as the sporting director of OM is now closer than ever. As previously reported exclusively, the former Juventus player has always been the top priority for Longoria, the club’s management.
However, Benatia had to finalize important details related to his agent role before committing to Olympique de Marseille. Resolving these legal and financial matters took several weeks. According to our sources, everything has now been settled, and unless there is an unexpected turn of events, Benatia’s signing is expected to be officially announced during the international break by the Marseille leadership.

An Official Arrival Expected in a Week

According to Provence, the announcement of Medhi Benatia’s arrival is expected to be made during the Olympian delegation’s visit to Strasbourg in a week. The report also suggests that, similar to Luis Campos at Paris Saint-Germain, Benatia will be engaged with the Olympian club through a service contract. This operating model was mentioned by insiders from the beginning of the negotiations. Benatia will oversee the club’s sports policy, although he will not have the same level of authority as Javier Ribalta, who resigned following a contentious meeting in September.
