Golf’s Biggest Names Head to Basque Country for Bizkaia PGAE Open
Mark Your Calendars: June 20-22
The prestigious Meaztegi field in La Arboleda will once again open its doors to the cream of the crop in national golf for the fourth edition of the Bizkaia PGAE Open. From June 20 to 22, golf enthusiasts can witness the action as players vie for glory and a spot on the II Tumi Spain Golf Tour.
Star-Studded lineup
- Two-time Masters winner José MarÃa Olazábal was originally set to participate but has since clarity changed his schedule.
- Spain’s No. 1 golfer Javier Sainz, the current Spanish champion, will look to impress his home crowd.
- Canary Islands natives Carlos Suneson and Luis Claverie, Madrid’s Carlos Balmaseda and Vicente Blázquez, and Andalusians Manuel Quirós and Mario Galiano are among the talent lined up to compete.
A Cut Above: The Format
The tournament will span three days (June 20-22) with a cut after the first two rounds. The Stroke Play format will see the player with the lowest total score after 54 holes crowned the winner. Meaztegi will transform into the epicenter of professional golf, attracting both established stars and promising young talents.
Giving Back to the Community
The event has a strong commitment to charity. The ‘Jon Rahm 4 Kids’ project in collaboration with the Aladina Foundation will receive funds from a Pro-AM event on June 19. Additionally, proceeds from another Pro-AM on the same day will go to the Dalecandela Foundation and support research into ELA, a rare neuromuscular disorder.
„We thank those who give us a voice to make ELA visible. We seek to stir consciences to guarantee a decent life, to be the person who decides whether to continue living or not, and the election does not depend on their economic resources. You don’t know what I would give to put me back on the 1st tee and hit the ball. Enjoy it.“
Weather May Have the Final Say
Last year’s edition was cut short due to inclement weather. The event officially kicks off with a presentation on June 19, attended by local dignitaries, including Leixuri Arrizabalaga, Deputy of Euskera, Culture and Sports, and Carlos Alzaga, Foral Deputy of Infrastructure and Territorial Development.
