Indian Wells, CA – Victoria Mboko is making a statement at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. The 19-year-old secured a quarterfinal berth with a commanding straight-sets victory over sixth-seeded Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 6-1.

Dominant Performance Against Anisimova

Mboko, who has yet to drop a set in the tournament, showcased her consistency and composure against the two-time Grand Slam finalist. She broke Anisimova in the seventh game of the opening set and continued her momentum with three breaks in the second. Mboko committed only seven unforced errors throughout the entire match.

Quarterfinal Clash with World No. 1

Next up for Mboko is a formidable challenge: a quarterfinal showdown with world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka has a 14-1 record this season, with her only loss coming in the Australian Open final against Elena Rybakina. The two players have met once before, at the Australian Open this year, where Sabalenka won 6-1, 7-6 (1).

“Yeah, playing against Amanda today, I knew it was going to be incredibly tough going in the match. I feel like we had really great exchanges at the back and she was playing some really solid tennis. But I felt that I was just wanting to stay in there as much as I could with her, and I’m happy to have gotten the win today.”
