Mauricio Valencia, the king of shot put and the pride of Colombia at the Paralympics

With a throw of 11.71 metres, Valencia beat the Moroccan Azedin Nuiri (11.70 m) and the Jordanian Ahmad Hindi (11.66 m) by just a few centimetres, thus securing the sixth gold medal for the Colombian delegation.

This new gold medal adds to an enviable Paralympic record for Valencia, who has participated in four editions of the Games and has obtained a total of five medals: gold in the F34 javelin and bronze in the F34 shot put in Rio 2016; silver in the F34 javelin in Tokyo 2020; and now, silver in the F34 javelin and gold in the F34 shot put in Paris 2024.

With this victory, Colombia continues to make history at the Paralympic Gamesreaching its best participation of all time. The national delegation already has 24 medals: six gold, six silver and 12 bronze.
