The 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics torch relay reached a spectacular conclusion in Mantova today, leaving behind a city filled with pride and unforgettable memories.
Mantova Says Goodbye to the Olympic Torch
In a moving ceremony held in the historic Piazza Sordello, under the magnificent Ducal Palace, the Olympic Flame was extinguished. The event was enhanced by the presence of three prominent Mantuan figures:
- Alberto Bollini, coach of the Italian Under-19 football team.
- Lucilla Boari, bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
- Roberto Boninsegna, an icon of the Italian national team and a striker for Inter and Juventus.
“Carrying the Olympic torch was extraordinary.
” said Boninsegna, who lit the brazier. He added, “It felt like being at San Siro, in front of 70,000 spectators, but I was even more excited because all my fellow Mantova citizens were there, applauding and cheering me on. I never thought I could experience such indescribable joy as I did today.
“
The Torch’s Journey Continues in Veneto
On Tuesday, January 20, the Olympic Flame will make its way through the Veneto region, passing through the following towns:
- Nogara
- Legnago
- Rovigo
- Monselice
- Este
Its final destination of the day will be Vicenza.
