Manchester City’s Unstoppable Start Threatened by Late Defeats in Champions League
An Unbeaten Run Comes to an End
Manchester City’s impressive unbeaten run in all competitions has come to an abrupt end in the Champions League, with late goals denying Pep Guardiola’s side maximum points in their two away games so far. This includes a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Club Brugge on Wednesday night.
“
We have won four and drawn two of our last six matches, but those blemishes have come by conceding in the 93rd minute at Arsenal and in the 90th minute here,
”
Guardiola admitted his frustration, “We are disappointed because we feel we should have got much more out of these games.”
Haaland’s Double Not Enough
Erling Haaland continued his sensational form, scoring twice in Belgium, but his goals were not enough to secure a result. He now has 17 goals for club and country this season.
City have won four and drawn two of their last six matches, but those blemishes have come by conceding in the 93rd minute at Arsenal and in the 90th minute here, while they have now failed to win any of their past five Champions League away games.
“The draws cost us the chance to qualify early. We have to learn from this,” Guardiola added.
