Madagascar’s Youth delegation ready for CJSOI 2025
From July 31 to August 9, 2025, the Indian Ocean Youth and Sports Commission (CJSOI) will host its 13th games in the Seychelles. Seven nations, including Madagascar, will participate. Madagascar is sending a 119-member delegation led by 58 young athletes aged 14 to 17, accompanied by dedicated coaches and medical staff.
A Multidisciplinary Team
Madagascar’s delegation, which left Ivato airport this Thursday, includes athletes participating in eight disciplines: athletics, badminton, basketball, football, judo, weightlifting, swimming, and volleyball. The team has focused on its strengths, opting to not participate in sports like beach soccer, sailing, e-sports, and boxing.
The first wave of athletes, already in Seychelles, includes football, basketball, judo, and swimming teams, ready to compete in the early days of the games.
Disciplines and Ambitions
Judo
Madagascar’s judo team comprises eight athletes—four girls and four boys, all supervised by expert coaches. They will begin their competition on August 4 at the Roche de Caïman gymnasium. Judo is a technical discipline that Madagascar hopes will showcase its prowess.

Basketball
Madagascar’s basketball team, with 10 players, is led by Coach Tsimialona Hyachinthe Randrianjafy, Director Technical Angelot Solo Randrianjafy, and Arbitre Heritani Andriolaova. Placed in Group B, they will start their matches at the gymnasium in Victoria, aiming for a strong start.
Football
Madagascar’s football team, consisting of 18 players, has been placed in Group B alongside Mayotte and Seychelles. This tournament, highlighting emerging talents, will be a significant challenge for the young Malagasy players.
Swimming
In swimming, Madagascar aims to set new personal records and compete with the best nations. Led by Coach Andrianasolo Han’aze Praxas, the team consists of six athletes ready to dive into the competition pool.
Challenges and Opportunities
The CJSOI games serve as a platform for young talents from the Indian Ocean region. For Madagascar, this event is an opportunity to confirm its competitiveness in disciplines like weightlifting, athletics, and judo, while developing its teams in group sports like basketball, football, and volleyball.
The Malagasy delegation, with its 58 athletes and experienced supervision, aims for a high ranking on the medal table while offering a formative experience to its young athletes. However, the team faces challenges such as increased regional competition, climate conditions, and competition pressure.
Madagascar’s program is intense from the outset: basketball faces the Comoros on Friday, weightlifting and badminton start on Sunday, volleyball enters the fray on Monday, judo follows on Tuesday, and athletics begins on August 5. Football promises to be a highlight with its group matches against Mayotte and the Seychelles.
