Leaky Court Challenges Justin Hoh in Macau Open Final
In an unexpected turn, a leaky court at the Macau Open final on Sunday (Aug 7) disrupted the rhythm of Malaysian badminton player Justin Hoh, who was aiming for his first World Tour title.
Injury Recovery and Breakthrough Outing
Justin, aged 21, faced off against Indonesian player Alwi Farhan in the men’s singles final. Despite having suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury in 2023, Justin had made a remarkable comeback, reaching his first World Tour final this year.
Leaky Court Complicates Match
“There was water leaking onto the court and this disrupted Justin today,” said his singles coach, K. Yogendran.

Yogendran acknowledged the challenging court conditions: “The water leaking onto the court affected Justin’s movement. He couldn’t play as he usually does.
“
However, Yogendran refrained from using the incident as an excuse: “But this is not an excuse. We have to admit he lost to a better player.
“
Justin’s Resilience and Future Plans
Despite the disappointing loss, Yogendran was pleased with Justin’s performance: “Overall, it has been a good week for Justin. He beat a few players whom he had struggled against previously to reach the final.
“
Justin, the first Malaysian to qualify for a World Tour singles final this year, will now take a short break before competing in the Hong Kong Open from Sept 9-14.
Justin’s Journey to Recovery
Prior to this breakthrough, Justin’s best result for the year was reaching the quarter-finals in the Taiwan Open. His return to form after a serious injury is a testament to his resilience and hard work.
