MEMPHIS, TN (ABC24) – Memphis Tigers coach Penny Hardaway announced two new additions to the team’s coaching staff on Wednesday.
Mike Davis and Nolan Smith will join the Tigers as assistant coaches for the 2024-25 season.
Davis spent the last six seasons as the head coach at Detroit Mercy. He has more than 35 years of experience, with 24 years as a head coach, posting a winning record in 15 of those seasons.
“I am excited to have Coach Davis as a part of our program,” Hardaway said. “He is a veteran coach and brings a winning mentality to the team with an impressive resume to back it up, on and off the court.
Smith joins the Tigers after spending the past two years as an assistant coach at Louisville, and the past six seasons under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke as a special assistant, director of basketball operations and assistant coach.
“Nolan is a brave, tenacious man and one of the brightest young coaches in college basketball,” Hardaway said. “He works hard and has a passion for the game that is unmatched.
This is after four members of the coaching staff were fired in early September. Assistant coaches Rick Stansbury, Faragi Phillips and Jamie Rosser, along with special adviser Demetrius Dyson, have been fired and will not return for the 2024-25 NCAA season.
