Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum: A Olympic Hall of Famer

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a historically rich stadium situated in Exposition Park, will host both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2028 Olympics. This storied venue, constructed in 1923, previously played host to the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, making it a triple-Olympic venue in history.

The Competition Landscape Taking Shape

The LA28 organizing committee has been steadily unveiling the competition venues, with over a dozen sports sites revealed last month. Plans for the updated Olympic program, approved by the International Olympic Committee, are increasingly clear. Some notable competition locations include:

New Mixes, More Medals: LA28’s Olympic Program

The 2028 Olympic Games will feature six new mixed team disciplines, bringing the total medal events to 351, surpassing the Paris 2024 Games. New and returning sports include:

• 10 new medal events, such as Foosball (debut) and 3×3 basketball (expanded)
• 4 new mixed team events, like sports gymnastics, athletics (mixed relay)
• Weight category additions in women’s boxing
