Italy won the Davis Cup last week. The Squadra Azzurra won the competition for the second time in a row, the first since the Czech Republic in 2012 and 2013.

Filippo Volandri’s team was carried by the relentless Jannik Sinner, while Matteo Berrettini won both of his matches in the semi-finals against Australia and then in the final against the Netherlands.

On the other hand, Berrettini’s performance is not appreciated by everyone.

A few days ago, Nicola Pietrangeli, 91, criticized the game of 28 years, saying that he did not beat the big names (Berrettini defeated Kokkinakis and van de Zandschulp).

A guest of the Splendida Cornice show, Pietrangeli praised the Sinner and also fought against the Wimbledon finalist in 2021.

“I wanted to say that Sinner is the best Italian player of all time. Personally, I love the game, but compared to today’s players, I am a teenager.

Tennis, long live the Sinner and let’s put Berrettini in there because otherwise he will follow me,” he confirmed.
