83 Lombardy University Athletes Honored for Balance of Sport and Studies
Lombardy athletes’ commitment and hard work have been rewarded as 83 students received gold medals at the 2025 National University Championships. The award ceremony, held on January 12, 2025, in Milano, celebrated student-athletes who have successfully managed both university studies and competitive sports – the so-called “Dual Careers”.

Disciplines awarded included skiing, karate, wrestling, taekwondo, rowing, judo, and canoeing. This diversity demonstrates the depth and quality of Lombardy’s university sports movement.

Simone Bonfanti: A Javelin Specialist
Simone Bonfanti, a 25-year-old from Merate, represented CUS Bergamo and coach Fausto Frigerio at the forefront of the Italian university sports scene. With a personal best of 65.54 meters, Bonfanti’s outstanding performance earned him the gold medal at the latest Italian University Championships.
I’m incredibly honored to receive this recognition. It’s a testament to the hard work, dedication, and support from my coaches and family.
