ANNOUNCEMENT
After a successful staging of the World Judo Championships earlier this year, the World Judo Tour is back in Abu Dhabi for the first Grand Slam since the Paris Olympics.
It was Sabina Giliazova who achieved the lightest women’s weight at the Mubadala Arena at -48 kg.
A clever Sumi-gaeshi from Giliazova in the final seconds left STOJADINOV with no chance to reply.
The president of the IJF, Marius VIZER, awarded him the gold medal.
Iznaur SAAEV faced the Frenchman Cedric REVOL in -60 kg. He took home the victory with a gold-scoring waza-ari after a close battle.
Balazs FÜRJES, IOC member representing Hungary, presented the medals.
Khorloodoi BISHRELT of the United Arab Emirates took home gold for her home country in -52kg, a historic moment for the UAE women’s team.
Mohammed Bin Tha’aloob Al DERIE, President of the UAE Judo Federation, awarded the gold.
“It was very difficult but I wanted this medal. These people support me and this competition is important to me,” said BISHRELT.
Murad CHOPANOV was in good shape at -66 kg. In an exciting final, he caught Frenchman Daiki BOUBA twice! First by waza-ari, and then by the decisive Ippon!
The CEO of Icona Capital, Max-Hervé GEORGE, was present to present the medals.
“Thank you very much to Abu Dhabi! I have many friends here who compete and represent the UAE team. I wish you luck and make your team proud. Now I will celebrate my success and relax,” CHOPANOV said.
Seija BALLHAUS was the class of the field with -57 kg. She controlled the final and took the win with a powerful waza-ari score!
The medals were presented by René Fasel, life president of the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Just 7 seconds into the day, the UAE team also provided the first ippon of the tournament! Giving them a dream start.
