The Return of Leonardo Campana to the Ecuadorian National Team
Tricolor Striker Joins La Tri Squad for Qualifying Matches
The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) has announced the inclusion of Leonardo Campana in the list of players called up for the upcoming FIFA Qualifying matches against Venezuela and Chile.
In an official statement released on Sunday, November 12, the FEF stated that the Inter Miami forward will join the team’s training camp in the next few hours.
This marks Campana’s return to the national team after a five-month absence. His last appearance for the tricolor jersey was in a friendly match against Bolivia on June 18.
Despite his impressive performances for Inter Miami, Campana had not been called up by coach Félix Sánchez Bas in recent months. However, his consistent form this season, with 11 goals and five assists in 37 games, has earned him a spot in the squad.
Campana’s call-up is a result of Enner Valencia’s injury, who had to leave the field during a match between Inter de Porto Alegre and Palmeiras on November 11. The coaching staff is currently awaiting further medical evaluations on Valencia’s condition.
Ecuador will face Venezuela on November 16 as an away team, followed by a home match against Chile on November 21. Currently, La Tri is in sixth place in the Qualifiers table.
