World Championship bronze medalist Lennart Sass immediately placed on the podium in his Paralympics debut. It is the first German Paralympics medal in judo since 2016.
Judoka Lennart Sass won the bronze medal in his Paralympics debut. The 24-year-old from Rendsburg won the fight for third place in the J1 starting class up to 73 kilograms against Schochruch Mamedow from Uzbekistan with an Ippon. It is the first German judo medal since Rio 2016.
Sass, third in the World Championship last year, had previously been disqualified with a red card in the semi-final against Jergali Schamej from Kazakhstan for an illegal technique. In the round of the last eight, the visually impaired Sass defeated the Portuguese Djibrilo Iafa with an Ippon after just over a minute.
Ramona Brussig goes away empty-handed
There is no medal for London winner Ramona Brussig in the class up to 57 kilograms. The 47-year-old lost her opening match by Ippon against the Turkish Dondu Yesilyurt. Since her opponent was eliminated in the quarter-finals, the Schwerin native no longer has a chance of bronze.
