Lakers’ James, Doncic Questionable; Record Watch Continues

By TIM REYNOLDS

Injury Concerns for Lakers Stars

LeBron James is listed as doubtful for the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Miami Heat on Thursday, potentially postponing his attempt to break Robert Parish’s NBA record for most games played. Luka Doncic (right hip soreness) and Austin Reaves (right forearm bruise) are too questionable for the contest.

The Lakers reported that James is dealing with arthritis in his left foot.

Recent Performance & Impact

The trio combined for 84 points in Wednesday night’s 124-116 victory over the Houston Rockets. The Lakers arrived in Miami at 3:59 a.m. Following that game, a later arrival time than typically experienced when playing on consecutive nights.

James was exceptionally efficient against Houston, making 13 of 14 field goal attempts, matching the best shooting performance of his career.

He currently has played 1,610 regular-season games, one shy of Parish’s all-time mark.

Injury Incident & James’ Perspective

During the final minutes of Wednesday’s win, James slammed his right elbow into the court, briefly leaving the game and visibly displaying pain. He expressed his desire to play Thursday in Miami, a city where he previously won two NBA championships during four seasons, in a televised interview with ESPN.

I looked forward to playing Thursday in Miami, a city I called home for four seasons, in which I won the first two of my four NBA championships. LeBron James, via ESPN

Parish’s Record & Legacy

Robert Parish has held the record for most games played since April 6, 1996, when he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with his 1,561st game. Parish ultimately played 50 more regular-season games before retiring after the 1996-97 season, finishing his 21-season career with Golden State, Boston, Charlotte, and Chicago.

No player is more deserving of breaking that Ironman record, that record of 1,611 games played, than LeBron. He deserves it, in my opinion. Robert Parish, via Sirius NBA Radio

James’ Career Achievements

Breaking the games played record would be another addition to James’ extensive list of NBA records. He already leads the league in points scored, minutes played, field goals made, and field goals attempted.

He also holds the NBA records for seasons played (23), All-Star Game selections (22), and All-NBA Team selections (21).

Next Opportunity

If James doesn’t play Thursday, his next chance to tie Parish’s record will be Saturday in Orlando.
