Landaluce’s Impressive Miami Run Comes to an End

The Miami Masters 1000 saw a remarkable run from Martin Landaluce come to an end at the hands of Jiri Lehecka. Landaluce, the 20-year-old Madrid native, had previously upset top players en route to the quarterfinals.

A Close Contest Decided by Fine Margins

Lehecka ultimately prevailed with a 7-6 (1), 7-5 victory. The first set was particularly tight, going to a tiebreak where both players had won exactly 39 points. The second set stretched to 7-5, with Landaluce saving three match points before succumbing on the fourth.

“Today was super tough,” Lehecka said after the match. “It is never uncomplicated to play against an opponent who has nothing to lose. He played incredibly. He played some unbelievable shots in crucial moments. Every time I had a break point he went for it and deserved those points.”

Landaluce’s Ranking Set to Soar

Despite the loss, Landaluce is poised for a significant jump in the world rankings. He arrived in Florida ranked No. 151 and will leave at No. 103. This tournament represents a potential turning point in his professional career.

Landaluce is a 2022 US Open junior champion, but had been working through Challengers and qualifying rounds to gain ATP ranking points.

Lehecka’s Continued Success

With this win, Lehecka reaches his first Miami semi-final and his second at Masters 1000 level. He is now ranked No. 16 in the live rankings, matching his career high. He is the fifth Czech man to reach multiple Masters 1000 semi-finals.

Lehecka will face the winner of the match between Arthur Fils and Tommy Paul in the semifinals.
