Los Angeles Lakers Sign Son of NBA Legend Sarunas Marciulionis
New Hope for Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have added a fresh face to their roster, signing point guard Augustas Marciulionis to an Exhibit 10 contract. Although not selected in the recent NBA draft, ESPN reports that Marciulionis has secured a deal with the categorical powerhouse.
Following in His Father’s footsteps
Augustas Marciulionis’ surname carries significant weight in basketball. His father, Sarunas Marciulionis, is a Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer and FIBA Hall of Famer who played in the NBA for eight seasons. The elder Marciulionis was a star player for the Soviet Union, which won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics.
“It’s incredible to see Augusta following in his father’s footsteps,” said Lakers head coach Darvin Ham. “Sarunas was a tremendous player, and we’re excited to see what Augusta can bring to our team.”
Statistics and Injury Update
In his senior NCAA season at Saint Mary, Marciulionis Jr. averaged an impressive 14.2 points, 5.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and shot 44.6% from the field, including 34.7% from three-point range. He missed the pre-draft process due to a foot injury but is expected to return to action in late July.
With the Exhibit 10 contract, Marciulionis will likely begin his professional career in the NBA G League, unless he manages to secure a spot on the Lakers’ training camp roster.
What Lies Ahead
The Los Angeles Lakers are banking on the potential of Augusta Marciulionis to bolster their squad. With his solid NCAA resume and esteemed lineage, Lakers fans are eager to witness his progress in the purple and gold.
“We’re thrilled to have Augusta join the Lakers family,” said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka. “His skillset and competitive drive make him an exciting addition to our team.”
