Lakers’ Season Concludes; Timberwolves, Warriors in the Spotlight
The curtains have closed on the Los Angeles Lakers‘ 2024-2025 NBA season, following a 96:103 defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves. This loss marked their fourth in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, with the series ending 4-1 in the Timberwolves’ favor.
Maximilian Kleber, the German forward recently transferred to the Lakers, debuted after recovering from a long injury layoff. In five minutes of play, Kleber scored two points but also committed a critical turnover. Fellow Laker and fellow lottery pick LeBron James scored 22 points but struggled in the final quarter. Top player Luka Dončić, playing through back pain after a first-half fall, contributed 28 points.
The Lakers’ loss was largely due to the dominant performance of Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, who collected 27 points and 24 rebounds.
James Leaves Future Unclear
Post-game, LeBron James kept his future plans under wraps. “I don’t know. I have no answer for you right now“, said the four-time league MVP. “I need to discuss things with my family, my wife, and just see where my heart is at.”
James, who owns a player option for next season worth $52.6 million, has been pursuing a shared NBA career with his son, Bronny James. Bronny debuted for the Lakers this season but had limited court time.
Timberwolves Rising
The Timberwolves are increasingly establishing themselves as a serious title contender. “It feels great. We’ve had a season with ups and downs, but we have a lot of guys who want to win and love each other“, said Gobert after the game.
Warriors Stumble
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors face a uphill battle against the Houston Rockets. A 116-131 loss puts them down 2-3 in the series. Both Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler had subpar performances, scoring just 13 and 8 points, respectively.
