Koza High Rugby’s Historic Victory and National Tournament Bid
Okinawa, Japan — After an Eight-year drought, Koza High School Rugby Club has reclaimed the Okinawa prefecture championship, earning a spot in the National High School Rugby Football Tournament (Hanazono). The club’s triumph on Nov 21st marked their 16th victory in the Okinawa qualifiers, the last being in 2013.

The historic victory was more than just a triumph for the school; it was a source of pride for the entire Okinawa community. Village Mayor, Hideki Oshiro, expressed his joy: This is an honor for our community. We’re incredibly proud of the team’s achievement.
The Road to Hanazono
The club will represent Okinawa in the prestigious National High School Rugby Football Tournament (Hanazono) in December 2021. This will be their first appearance since 2013. The tournament, held annually since 1915, is a showcase of the top high school rugby teams from each of Japan’s 47 prefectures.
Preparing for Hanazono
Ahead of the national tournament, the club is seeking financial support to cover travel and activity expenses. The Koza High School Rugby Club support page has been set up for donations, with all proceeds going directly to the team’s travel and activity expenses.
