Ken Griffey Jr. Named Global Ambassador for 2026 World Baseball Classic

Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. Has been appointed as the Global Ambassador for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, World Baseball Classic Inc. Announced yesterday.

A Multifaceted Role for “The Kid”

Griffey’s role will center around providing exclusive interviews and access to significant participants throughout the tournament. This content will be featured on World Baseball Classic platforms and MLB Network studio programming.

Connecting Cultures Through Baseball

The appointment highlights an effort to showcase the global connection to baseball. Griffey is currently in Nicaragua working with the country’s National Team manager, Dusty Baker, to create content.

He recently spent time in Miami with Manny Machado and Junior Caminero of Team Dominican Republic. Beginning March 2nd, coinciding with workout day, Griffey will utilize his passion for photography while embedded with Team USA, capturing content from his unique perspective.

Griffey’s involvement with the World Baseball Classic extends beyond this ambassadorial role. He previously played for Team USA in the inaugural 2006 tournament, where he batted .524 with three home runs, and served as the hitting coach for Team USA in 2023.

A Veteran of the Game

The 13-time MLB All-Star and 1997 American League Most Valuable Player enjoyed a 22-year Major League career with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago White Sox.

Griffey has also served as a Senior Advisor to the Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred since 2021.
