Many pregnant women come into contact with their pelvic floor, which supports all organs, for the first time during their first pregnancy: these muscle layers should be strengthened in good time to support the baby and also the bladder. The so-called Kegel exercises – named after their inventor Arnold H. Kegel – help with this. You strengthen the muscles with targeted tension and relaxation. Yoga and Pilates also help to strengthen the core of the body and at the same time positively stimulate the baby. If you exercise a lot in the fresh air, you will relieve fatigue or back pain and ensure vitality and well-being for your baby too. However, the reduced capacity of the bladder and small foot kicks can cause urine to leak out uncontrollably – which many find very unpleasant, but is completely normal. Bladder weakness affects around 30 percent of all pregnant women. And even after childbirth, the female body needs time to regenerate. “Every pregnancy and childbirth weakens the pelvic floor muscles. That’s why it’s normal for some women to be incontinent for around three months afterwards,” explains health expert Michaela Bahr. She recommends seeking advice from the pharmacy early and openly. There are skin-friendly and breathable hygiene insoles that immediately absorb urine and bind unpleasant odors. It is also important to drink enough during pregnancy despite a weak bladder. The body needs at least two liters a day to support it.
