As happened to other movie stars, Keanu Reeves was also conquered by motor racing. Over the past weekend the Canadian actor made his debut in a non-trivial place: the Indianapolis circuit. The challenges of the Toyota GR Cup North America were held here, a marginal competition to the Indy 8 Hour for aspiring drivers or simple enthusiasts. Reeves’ debut did not go unnoticed, also thanks to some twists and turns.

Keanu took part in the competition with Toyota number 92, which had the writing “BRZRKR” on the sides. A way to recall the novel “The Book of Elsewhere”, created together with China Miéville and belonging to the BRZRKR series. The start of the weekend was not memorable: Reeves qualified only thirty-first out of 35 participants. The first of the two races showed the strengths and weaknesses of the sixty-year-old actor. If he had the merit of avoiding an accident on the opening lap, with 21 minutes to go Keanu ran off the track at turn 9. Fortunately no damage to the car, but the comeback did not take Reeves beyond twenty-fifth place , ahead of eight other drivers. An improved result in the second race, which ended in twenty-fourth position.

For Reeves, applauded by several fans present at the event, it was an important experience. Until now, in fact, he had already dabbled in some car races, but reserved only for celebrities, winning the Long Beach Toyota Grand Prix in 2009. The actor thus imitates other colleagues who are in love with engines to the point of even becoming pilots. Just think of the cases of Paul Newman and Patrick Dempsey, both protagonists in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Who knows if they will be an example for Reeves.
