The Korea Communications Standards Commission has decided to hear the opinions of the production team regarding the KBS N Sports ‘2024 Shinhan Sol Bank KBO League’ that aired sportscaster Lee Ki-ho’s sexually harassing remarks.

On the 26th, the Broadcasting and Communications Commission held a general meeting at the Mokdong Broadcast Center in Seoul and announced that it had decided to ‘state its opinion’ on the August 1 broadcast of KBS N Sports’ ‘2024 Shinhan Sol Bank KBO League’.

The broadcast in question became problematic because, during the broadcast of a game between the Hanwha Eagles and KT Wiz of the Korea Professional Baseball (KBO), the caster saw a sketchbook in the stands with the words “If you’re a woman, it’s Choi Jae-hoon” written on it and said, “I want to eat woman ramen,” and “Isn’t this the most delicious ramen?” The applicable provisions are Article 30 (Gender Equality), Paragraphs 2 and 4 of the “Regulations on Broadcast Deliberation.”

In addition, the Korea Communications Standards Commission decided to hear the opinions of the production team regarding MBN’s “King of Singers” (aired on December 19 and 26 last year, January 9, 16, and 23 this year, and February 6 and 13) for excessively highlighting indirect advertising product names and disrupting the viewing flow. Also, regarding MBC TV’s “Straight” (aired on March 31 this year), which showed an interview based on a KBS confidential document of unclear origin and aired the content that the current government is trying to take control of public broadcasting, the decision was made to postpone the decision and discuss it again at a later date. This decision was made in consideration of the fact that trials are currently underway regarding some of the broadcast content.

Ryu Hee-rim, Chairwoman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, said, “We will prepare special measures to protect the public from illegal and harmful information, such as the recent spread of deepfake sexually explicit videos in group chat rooms and the distribution of information that causes social confusion by taking advantage of the resurgence of the COVID-19 variant virus.”
