Swiss Badminton Championships: Close Calls and Regional Representation
The Swiss Championships Badminton tournament in Geneva this past weekend saw a valiant effort from several players hailing from the Jura region. While ultimately falling short of the finals, their performances showcased the growing talent in the area. Marion Varrin, a standout athlete, reached the semi-finals in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles, proving her prowess on the court.
Tough Fights and Near Victories
Varrin’s mixed doubles partnership with Robin Gerber from Lausanne particularly came down to the wire. They pushed their formidable opponents to three sets, narrowly losing the deciding set 22-20. “We played with real heart,” reflected Varrin. “We knew going up against the top team would be a challenge, but we fought until the very end. It’s a bit heartbreaking to be so close but ultimately fall short.”
Varrin’s women’s doubles partnership with Eugénie Chapuis (from BC Courrendlin) faced a stronger opponent in the final four, losing convincingly 21-15 and 21-9 against the reigning champions.
Varsity Players Shine
Further strengthening the regional presence at the championships were Gaël Gerber, Loïc Berret, Matthieu Beuchet, the Lorraine brothers, and Adrian Joliat, each showcasing their skills and experience.
