Junior Challengers: High School American Football Team’s Inspiring Progress

Recent Practice Match and Progress

The Junior Challengers, an independent high school American football team based in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, have been steadily gaining experience and honing their skills. On December 7, 2025, they participated in a practice match against Ritsumeikan Moriyama and Shiga Prefectural Nagahama Kita.

In the first half against Ritsumeikan Moriyama, the Junior Challengers struggled, giving up two touchdowns and a field goal, leading to a 0-17 defeat. Despite the score, there were glimpses of promise, like LB Hiroyasu Inui’s tackle and RB Go Nishimura’s nice run.

Turning the Tide in the Second Half

In the second half against Nagahama Kita, the Junior Challengers showed more fight. After giving up an early touchdown, they fought back and scored two touchdowns, one via a pass completion to LB Yuichiro Iba after an interception, and another on a QB keeper by WR Ken Murakami. The game ended 13-31 in their favor.

Head coach Shinji Saoka, a former captain of the Kwansei Gakuin University Fighters, emphasized the importance of enjoying football and learning from every experience. He encouraged his players to keep improving in various aspects of the game.

Captain Eito Uesaka Reflects on His Journey

Captain Eito Uesaka, a founding member and the first captain of the Junior Challengers, shared his emotional farewell after the match. Despite his slender build, Uesaka played both LB and offensive line positions. He will attend Kwansei Gakuin University this spring and serve as a coach for the Junior Challengers.
