Jude Bellingham: Real Madrid’s Golden Boy 2023
Jude Bellingham has officially been named the Golden Boy 2023. The Englishman’s exceptional performance, which includes 13 goals and three assists in his first 14 games for Real Madrid, has shattered records and solidified his position as a rising star in the football world. The announcement was made by ‘Tuttosport’ during a press conference held in Turin’s skyscraper headquarters.
Awarding the Best Under-21 Footballer in Europe
Bellingham becomes the first player from Real Madrid to win the prestigious Golden Boy award. This accolade places him among the ranks of football legends such as Messi, Fábregas, Agüero, Mbappé, Joao Félix, Haaland, Pedri, and Gavi, who have all received this honor since its inception in 2003. He is also the third Englishman to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of Rooney (2004) and Sterling (2014).
The Growing Importance of the Golden Boy Award
Guido Vaciago, director of ‘Tuttosport’, emphasized the increasing significance of the Golden Boy award. It is not only coveted by players as an objective, but also recognized by clubs and competitions. Real Madrid even opened its shareholders’ meeting with the award presented to Florentino Pérez, acknowledging him as the best president in Europe in 2022. The Golden Boy also features a ‘Board of Legends’ and four special awards, highlighting the best president, manager, player, and female player.
Recognition for Outstanding Contributions
The ‘Tuttosport Awards’, chosen by the newspaper, were given to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the football industry. Ali Barat was recognized as the best agent, Chiara Beccari as the best Italian player, Linda Caicedo as the Golden Girl Absolute best, and Cristiano Giuntoli for the best challenge of the year.

The Introduction of the ‘Golden Boy Index’
‘Tuttosport’ introduced a new feature called the ‘Golden Boy Index’, which analyzes the performances of young footballers based on their playing time, market movements, and club and national team matches. This index, developed in collaboration with Football Benchmark, data & analytics, will be used in future editions to determine the candidates for the award.
The Selection Process
A jury of 50 international journalists, including AS deputy director Joaquín Maroto, was responsible for selecting the Golden Boy winner. In addition to Bellingham, Lamine Yamal received special recognition for coming in second place in the overall ranking and being the youngest player to come so close to winning the award. Giorgio Scalvini was chosen as the best Italian under-21 player.
The Awards Ceremony
The gala and awards ceremony will take place on December 4 in Turin at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni. Italy will host Bellingham, the deserving recipient of the Golden Boy 2023.
Gratitude and Aspirations
Upon receiving the award, Bellingham expressed his gratitude and aspirations: “I would like to thank everyone who voted for me in the Golden Boy. This recognition means a lot to me. I am grateful to all those who have been part of my journey so far, from Birmingham to Dortmund and now at Real Madrid. I couldn’t have achieved this without their support. Most importantly, I want to thank my family for their constant support, motivation, and love. With this beautiful award, I am inspired to continue pushing my limits and hope to win many more trophies in the future. Thank you all and take care.”
