Making Golf Social and Cultural
López’s primary objective is to eradicate theelitist stigma surrounding golf and make it more accessible and engaging for the community. “It’s not just about playing; it’s about the culture, the gastronomy, the nature, and the social connections,” he says.
To achieve this, López and his team are working on various initiatives, from revamping clubs like Salamanca Golf & Country Club to attracting tourists with unique tour packages. “We can make the best tour packages, plus we have more affordable prices to offer people,” he states.
Growing Interest in Golf
The effort appears to be paying off. “I think people are coming to Zarapicos and Villamayor to play [golf],” López says, acknowledging the rise in interest. He highlights the health benefits, socialization aspects, and family bonding opportunities that golf offers.
However, López is aware of the challenge in communicating these benefits, especially for indoor golf, which is less understood. But, with the right approach and communication strategy, he believes they can make golf more appealing to a broader audience.
Golf’s Impact on Tourism and Economy
For López, the benefits of golf extend beyond the sport itself. “Golf makes money. Players spend it on restaurants, hotels, and they get to know the city better,” he explains, pointing out the positive impact golf has on local tourism and economy.
Moreover, the visible faces of the club—the courses—serve as valuable assets. “Salamanca has the opportunity to offer an important golf experience,” López notes, stressing that a strong golf scene can drive tourism and economic growth.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we look towards 2026, López’s vision remains clear. “I expect that people understand that ours is a social club, in which we offer not only sports but also a place for families to enjoy and socialize more,” he says.
In essence, López aims to make golf more than just a sport; he wants it to be a pillar of the community, driving social, cultural, and economic growth.
