The city of Joliette came together on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Desjardins Center to honor its outstanding citizens at the 2025 Volunteer Action Gala. The evening was a testament to the power of community engagement and selfless dedication.

Meet the Remarkable Winners

Sports and Outdoor Development Prize – Basketball Association Perseverance

Founded in 2022, this association promotes basketball among young people, providing a competitive and healthy framework. With 130 athletes, including 90 girls, aged 8 to 17, and seven dedicated volunteers, they have recruited qualified coaches, expanded teams, and organized tournaments and development camps.

Social Development Prize – Mark Elkes

A true community leader, Mark Elkes founded the community activities group at Park Lajoie, organizing over 30 events last year, from karaoke evenings to soccer and balloon-broom games.

Cultural Development Prize – Pierre Lafrance

Since retiring in 2010, Pierre Lafrance has enriched the community through children’s stories, cultural events, intergenerational philosophy sessions, and collaborations with local organizations. His Playmobil exhibition attracted 1,100 visitors.

Elder in Motion Prize – Yvan Goulet

At nearly 80 years old, Yvan Goulet is a pillar of the annex to Roland. As a social worker, he supports employability and social catering, redistributing hundreds of meals annually. He also actively supports the Exp.or project and the annual Christmas market.
